Recovering - June 6, 2011

Last night was the first time that Poutine and I slept through the night (on the couch, of course). Although it took 20 minutes of patting and cuddling before he fell asleep wearing his cone.

Yesterday I had him walked a few times, just short little steps, still very wobbly and he would not bend his knees. Not looking forward to doing the physical therapy next week…

I've been having problems giving him his pills. I was able to trick him by putting his pill inside one of his treats at the beginning, but he soon realized the awful taste and would not take his treat anymore. I even tried a different treat, he would take it but spit it out as soon as there's a pill inside, no matter how well I hid it. He can detect anything!

I have no choice but to force the pill down his throat. That's not an easy task either. The nurse said to open his mouth, put the pill as far back as possible, close his mouth and stroke his throat downward so he will swallow. Well, we tried that and Poutine absolutely refused to swallow. We held his mouth closed for what seemed like eternity, and he spat the pill out as soon as we let go. This morning, I even tried squeezing some water into the corner of his mouth after I dropped the pill and held his mouth closed, thinking he will have to swallow the water, but NOOOO….!!! His mouth started foaming instead and I had to let go. What a stubborn kid!!
